Team roles — OWNER, MANAGER, EMPLOYEE

Three permission levels in Mopka. We explain who sees what, who can do what, and how to change roles without breaking history.

4 min read

Everyone in Mopka has one of three roles: Owner, Manager or Employee. The role decides what they see after logging in and what they can change.

The three roles in brief

The Owner has full access. It's the person who created the company account, and there's one per company. Only the owner manages the subscription, payroll settlements, data export and import, company settings and account deletion.

The Manager runs the office's day-to-day work: jobs, calendar, clients, invoices, quotes and the team. A manager has no access to the subscription, Settlements, Data Management or company settings other than the client portal and the skills catalogue. Of the reports, they only see team utilization.

The Employee does the work in the field. In the phone app they see their own jobs, start and finish them, tick off checklists and take photos.

What an employee sees

After logging in, an employee lands in an app built for the phone, with the Today, Jobs, Absences, Notifications, Notices and Profile tabs. They see addresses, access codes and notes only for their own jobs. They don't see the client list, prices, invoices, reports or other people's pay.

Changing a role

The owner changes roles in the employee's profile, under Edit. The options are Manager and Employee. The owner role can't be changed or handed over in the app. If the company gets a new owner, email [email protected].

Changing a role doesn't touch history. An employee who becomes a manager keeps their jobs and hours and simply sees more.

Working alone?

If you're the only person in the company, turn on Solo mode in Settings → Company. Mopka hides the Team section and assigns every new job to you.

The server checks permissions

Roles are checked by the server on every request, not just by the interface. An employee who types in the address of the invoices screen won't see any data.
